CLARK SCHOOL ART SHOW

Clark School Art Show
Field Day - June 3
This year's postponement of the Art Show I think is working in our favor. Students have been creating some fantastic pieces and it's much more rewarding to show something that you've all worked hard to complete!
Every student will have the opportunity to put in 2 pieces of art. Some of you are already up to that quota. If you have a piece that you made at home and are particularly fond of, please feel free to bring it in and we'll discuss it.
Highlights for this year's show will be:
  • Freaky Clown Gallery- a black light presentation of strange clowns from Groups 2 and 3
  • Graffiti Alley - Graffiti art made by our High School Freshmen and Sophomores
  • Wenham Museum Art Show Participants - Artwork that was displayed at the Wenham Museum in February

Other artwork on display will include, masks, printmaking, painting, sculpture and other creative experiments!

Please take your work home with you at the end of the day!!!

Now, let's pray for SUN!!!

Have a great summer!

Thanks for checking in! Here's a ton of bonus videos!

April 6- 8

2010 CLAHK AHT SHOW
MAY 12

Greetings Clark Artists!

OK, I fell off the Blog Wagon for a bit, but here we are in a new quarter, the LAST quarter of the year! Yowzah!

Here are some important notes for HS and both Group 5s:

HIGH SCHOOL - Freshmen & Sophmores: Hopefully the weather will coperate and we can start our graphitti art on Tuesdaay! I'll bring the boards and primer. Please finalize your choice for a tag name and come with ideas of how you want to design it and add embelishments to it. Please supply your own really cool colors, I'll get the basics (red, blue, black, yellow, green, white, puple). If you want your own set to work with or if you know you're going to use a lot of one specific color, it's up to you to bring it!!! This is why having a good idea of what you are doing is important.

HIGH SCHOOL - Juniors & Seniors: We'll get to work on your final piece. I'll supply the canvases and paint. PLEASE come ready with some ideas - even if it's just a style you want to work in.

BOTH GROUP 5s: Remember that trip to the MFA? Remember the paper I had you fill out while we were there? A few of you passed it in... if you have it, please pass it in, if you don't please go to their website http://www.mfa.org/ and look up a piece that you saw, and do the paper from that. I'll print some up and give them to Denise and Jodi. Those who passed it in before the end of the 3rd quarter will get full credit.

ALSO: Based on the Jackson Pollack documentary we watched, please do the following essay: "What Makes A Peice Of Art 'Good'?" ESSAY DUE Wed April 7 Really think about this. Did YOU know who Jackson Pollack was before you watched this? Did you side with the art critics, or with the truck driver? Do you have judgments about who they seem to be - and does that influence your judgement? I can tell when you guys fluff this off, so really think about it.
1 page, 12pt, 1 inch margins, & NAME on top please!

Group 5 Green: We will be exploring the underground world of graphic novels, and I will bring in the work I did years ago with some friends when we tried to put one together. Be thinking about topics for doing a one page graphic novel!!!!!

Group 5 Blue: We will be FINISHING the ceiling mural - RIGHT?!!! I'd like to get this buttoned up so we can move on. Talking will be kept at a minumum. It's crunch time - let's git er done!!!

I'd like to finish so you have time to work on a final project and enter it into the Art Show in May. You will have a choice: Strange Sci-Fi B Movie Poster, or Lawn sculpture. Please come to me with your ideas and which project you'd like to work on.

All other groups, keep on keepin' on!

Check out the cool stuff at the MoMA!!! http://redstudio.moma.org/

Week of February 16 - 19

Hope you all have a fantastic 3 day weekend with Valentine's and President's Day!

High School: Thank you to those who have brought in a sketch book. If I've given one to you, please come with a check for $10 made out to the Clark School. If you still prefer to bring your own, please do so!!!

HS 1: Be thinking about what you'd like to do for your graffiti art project. Eventually we'll be painting these on boards outside - so right now, while the weather is cold, we'll work on the basics of drawing, design, and shading so that you'll feel confident when we get to the finished piece.

HS 2: Be thinking abou what you'd like to do for your independent project and come ready with some ideas.

Group 5 Green: Well, the goal was to be done with the ceiling mural this past week, but there's still a lot of clean up work to do to finish the edges and fix the panel above the door. This will only work if you are all willing to put in the extra effort. It would be great for you all to feel really good about this as it is something that you have painted on school property for folks to see in years to come. If you are graduating this year, please, think about this carefully. We'll be having a critique this week to figure this out.

Group 5 Blue: We're chugging along with the mural and you're making great progress! We'll continue with more detail work this week. The goal is to have it done by the end of the month, but as I've said with Group 5 G, we have to consider not only making the subject matter look good, but we also have to think about treating the edges, doorways, etc.

Group 4: Puppets, puppets, puppets! You should almost be done with the arms and I'll give a demonstration on sewing the inner mouth this week.

Group 3: Thank you all for your appologies for being loud and off the wall this past class. Let's put those words to work this week as we begin our plaster sculptures.

Group 2: Masks! Bring in anything you'd like to use to decorate them with. Remember, try to do your own thing - not just follow what others are doing! You are an individual.

Group 1: We'll be playing an art game with paint! Though we'll use washable paint, sometimes it still stains. Please bring in a smock if you haven't already.

For Week of February 9 -11

High School: If you don't have a sketchbook, I have ones available. Please bring in a check for $10 made out to the Clark School. You'll need one for planning your individual project.

Both Group 5s: We're painting!!!
LET'S FINISH THESE UP THIS MONTH!!!
5 Green: Finish this week - party next week?
5 Blue: Finish next week - party the following week?
Whattaya say we get these done!

Group 4: Puppets! We'll have art at the END of the day. Please think about what you'd like to dress your puppet up like. I'll bring in some things, but I might not be able to bring in exactly what you want - so if you have a specific need, try to see if you can find something to bring in.

Group 3: We'll be experimenting.

Group 2: MASKS! Think about extra things you'd like to add to give that special touch and bring it in next week. We'll also be doing a critique then.

Group 1: Art games.

TO ALL STUDENTS!

We will be presenting Clark School student work on paper at the Wenham Museum. If you would like to participate, please follow these guidelines:

- If you are creating a new piece, please use ones of these themes as your subject: Valentine's Day, American Presidents, Heros of Black History.
- The artwork must be a flat drawing, painting or origninal collage on PAPER
- The artwork must be unmatted and unframed
- The artwork must be no smaller than 5"x7" and no larger than 16"x 20"
- You can submit 1 or 2 pieces
- The artwork must be dropped off to my office no later than 2:00 on Thursday, January 28.
